This morning, St. Stephen’s held a Technology Open House to showcase our successful adoption of Open Source software. In attendance were teachers and administrators from local schools, including the Atrium, Bartlett, Fayerweather, and Cambridge Public schools.
We also welcomed a distinguished visitor from across the sea: Mark Shuttleworth, the South African space traveler and entrepreneur who founded the company that distributes Ubuntu. He began with a tour of our classrooms, during which he answered students’ questions about the space station and related topics. Next, he was given a tour of our computer lab by Mr. Selva. At the end of his visit, Mr. Shuttleworth was presented with a gift basket by Mrs. Boyamian and members of our Board of Directors. Thanks to our intrepid VIP visitor, we now have an ample supply of Ubuntu CDs for anyone who wishes to test-drive it on a home or office computer.
I really wanted to come to this as I am an advocate for Linux being adopted in more educational environments. I pushed for it at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and it became a supported Operating System. Mark is doing something unbelievable for our society and it is great that you were able to meet with him. I just moved to San Francisco, so arranging time off from work and a flight back would have been just a little tough
oh my god, Thats very good.
